Another cool “brttttttttt video.”
Filmed throughout acceptance trials for a new lot of ammunition, this impressive clip shows a GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling Gun firing from a test stand.
What makes this video interesting is the fact that although the muzzle was placed 40 feet from the camera you can clearly hear the noise of the A-10’s 30mm rotary cannon firing 170 rounds during this 2,3 sec. long burst.
The Avenger cannon is the Hog primary weapon and is able to fire 3,900 bullets per minute: placed in the A-10 fuselage, each of its seven barrels has an internal riffling groove which passes through the whole length of the barrel so that a spin on each round can be induced.

And then the stupid background laughing. Ha ha ha ha ha that was really funny. Ha ha ha ha ha. Really funny.
Each barrel has internal riffling groove which passes through the whole length of the barrel so that a spin on each round can be induced? WOW!!!!
“What makes this video interesting is the fact that although the muzzle was placed 40 feet from the camera you can clearly hear the noise of the A-10’s 30mm rotary cannon firing 170 rounds during this 2,3 sec. long burst.” We also could clearly hear a 170 rounds of .22 cal or even a pellet or paintball gun at that distance.
Dang the pilot sits on that????
I have been there at Eglin AFB and stood in the hallway directly behind the test stand chamber doors (no one is allowed inside). The test guys go to some great lengths to warn you about the sound and to not be touching the chamber door (due to the pressures shoving the heavy gauge steel doors). As a A-10C weapons guy, that gun is music to my ears.
