Watch A MiG-29 Fulcrum Catch Fire On Take Off In Belarus

Impressive footage shows a Belarusian Air Force MiG-29’s failed take off and subsequent ejection.

The video below shows a Belarusian Air Force MiG-29BM Fulcrum that caught fire on take off from Bobruisk on Feb. 27, 2017.

Although the incident is under investigation and initially filed as an “engine fire”, the footage seems to show a collapse of the landing gear, an uncommanded retraction (or an untimely one – even though this option is not mentioned in reports emerged so far..) that caused the aircraft to fall on the runway sparking fire.

Regardless of the root cause of the fire, the pilot was able to successfully eject from the aircraft.

Video shows Russian Su-27 Flanker and Belarusian Mig-29 Fulcrum jets during air defense training

Cool footage shows Belarus and Russia’s warplanes intercept and escort an Antonov An-26 transport plane.

As explained last week, Russia deployed six Sukhoi-27 Flankers and three support transport planes to Bobruisk airfield in eastern Belarus to perform joint drills with local Belarusian Air Force Mig-29s.

The Russian deployment was a response to NATO’s deployment of 12 U.S. F-16 to Poland, and E-3 AWACS to Poland and Romania, in anticipation of last weekend’s referendum following which Crimea joined Russia.

The interesting video was filmed during an air defense exercise which involved the interception and escort of an Antonov An-26 cargo simulating an airspace violation.

Belarus to upgrade its Mig-29 Fulcrum fighter jets

As we have already reported, the Belarusian Air Force has withdrwan from use its Su-27 Flanker fleet.

Nonetheless it still operates several MiG-29 Fulcrums. The news is that these aircraft are to be modernized by the 558 Aviation Works in Baranovichi.

The modernization programme has been already prepared and includes new weapons. Deputy chief engineer, Alexander Vorobiey said that the offer is directed mainly at the foreign clients, nontheless the Belarusian MoD is to place an order next year.

It is not the first time that Baranovichi works modernizes the Fulcrums, as four of them were upgraded to BM standard (Belarusian Modernized). The aircraft received capability to use modern weaponry, such as R-77 air-to-air missiles, Kh-29, Kh-25 air-to-ground missiles and Kh-31 anti-ship weapon. Laser guided bomb capability was also added with the use of a targeting pod.

What is more the MiGs are able to perform aerial refueling.

The planned upgrade is going to be based on MiG-29BM standard with additional glass cockpit avionics, new radar with ground scanning capability and a sat-nav system, based either on GLONASS or GPS.

The Belarusian Air Force is still in weak condition. The Russians are helping their neighbours by placing Su-27 aircraft in Lida, near the Poland’s Eastern border.
