Syrian Su-22 Fitter shot down by rebels over Aleppo

A Su-22 Fitter was shot down by the Syrian opposition earlier today.

On Apr. 5, a SyAAF (Syrian Arab Air Force) Su-22 Fitter was allegedly shot down by the Syrian rebels while flying over al-Eis area in South Aleppo.

Parachuted pilot

As the following footage shows, the pilot ejected from the plane, to be captured and probably beaten by the militants. According to the latest news, the pilot is alive and in the hands of al-Nusra front militants.

It’s not clear who shoot the plane down and how;  unconfirmed reports claim the aircraft was hit by a MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense System).

Some Twitter accounts have published the photos of the captured pilot (with an ID still to be confirmed).

This video allegedly shows a Hezbollah killer drone incinerate Al Qaeda militants in Lebanon

It looks like Hezbollah is using its weaponized drones to attack Al Qaeda targets in Lebanon.

Not only Hamas operates armed UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) like the one flown over Gaza some weeks ago. Even Lebanon-based Hezbollah is employing its weaponized drones to bomb enemy positions in Lebanon, near the Syrian border.

Hezbollah has already launched remotely piloted vehicles over Israel in the past, some of those have been intercepted and shot down by the Israeli Air Force, however, this is the first time the terrorist group use their UAV to perform an air strike on enemy targets.

The first attack struck the al-Qaeda affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra (Nusra Front) positions near Arsal, close to the border with Syria.

The video below purportedly shows the attack of the Hezbollah drone.

It is impossible to determine the type of UAV used to conduct the air strike; even if it appears to be a quite simple drone (at least based on the symbology of the onboard camera which filmed video released by the group), it’s probably armed (provided it really fired the missile) and possibly accurate enough to target and strike individuals on the ground.

Al-Qaeda branch in Syria has shot down an Assad regime’s made-in-Iran drone

Al Jazeera has posted exclusive footage of a drone shot down by Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda’s local branch in Syria, while it was flying over Aleppo.

The drone seems to be a Yasir drone, a small Iranian drone (that can be quickly disassembled to be carried in a suitcase) based on the American Boeing ScanEagle (captured by the Iranians in 2012).

The Yasir (or the Sayeh – the version operated by the IRGC, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps) has been operating in Syria since November.

Yasir has quite a distinctive shape: it’s almost identical to a ScanEagle but it features a twin-tailboom empennage and an inverted v-tail elerudder similar to that of the RQ-7 Shadow.

Another drone of the same type was reportedly downed in the Qalamoun Mountains on Dec. 7. In this case the UAV is almost intact and easy to ID.
