Gunfire at Malpensa airport – Terminal 1 evacuated – departing flights cancelled

Breaking news: a gunfire took place at Malpensa airport around 11.20LT when a Tunisian man allegedly drove into Terminal 1 with a stolen SUV. According to the first news reports, the man smashed the glass door number 14 of the Terminal just in front of the check in desks. Armed with a knife, the man got out of the car and assaulted a police officer before another policeman shot him, wounding him in the foot. The man was transported to hospital by EMS operators. As a consequence of the shooting, Terminal 1 was evacuated and all departing flights temporarily cancelled. Initially, it seemed that the man was attempting to stop his wife from leaving with a departing flight, however this hypothesis was discarded since his wife was inside the car with him at the time of the assault. Terrorism ruled out.
